Why Winter is the Best Time for Laser Hair Removal
The new year is here, and everyone is thinking about self-improvement and resolutions. If your goal is to give up shaving for good, winter is the perfect time of year to start laser hair removal treatments.
While the monthly cost of shaving is only around $15, over the course of your life, that adds up to over $10,000! In addition to the costs, shaving is time-consuming and often results in razor burn and ingrown hairs—and before you know it, you have stubble. Again. While waxing might last longer, it’s painful, expensive, and you have to put up with your unwanted body hair as it grows long enough for waxing to be effective.
Laser hair removal, on the other hand, requires an initial investment, and you will need at least six treatments and occasional touch-ups for optimal results. The procedure isn’t comfortable, but most of our clients say it’s less painful than waxing, and laser hair removal pays for itself with a lifetime of smooth, hairless skin.
Have we convinced you yet?
You can have laser hair removal at any time of year, but we recommend starting your treatments in the colder months. This is why:
Less sun exposure
When you have laser hair removal treatments, you need to avoid the sun. The laser treatment targets the melanin in your skin, which can increase your photosensitivity, which could result in skin discoloration. While the weather is almost always gorgeous here in sunny Torrance, California, the sun is less intense at this time of year, and you’re less likely to spend time lounging by the pool or engaged in other outdoor activities that might result in a tan.
More effective treatment
Here at Shantique Med Spa, Shahinaz Soliman, MD, uses the state-of-the-art BroadBand Light (BBL)™ system to perform Forever Bare BBL treatments, which makes laser hair removal an option for almost every skin color. However, the treatment works best on pale skin. Even if you have a naturally darker skin tone, sunlight can interfere with the effectiveness of your laser hair removal treatments.
Easier to prep for laser hair removal treatment
When you have laser hair removal, you need to have some hair in your follicles to attract the laser. This means that you need to give up waxing, plucking, or epilating while you go through your treatments. You should shave the day before your laser hair removal appointments. When you cut your hair off at the surface, a small amount of hair remains in the follicle. This leaves just enough for the laser to target and damage the follicle.
More time to complete laser hair removal treatment
Most patients need at least six treatments to achieve their optimal results. We need to target your hair during the active growth phase, but all of your hairs aren’t on the same cycle. We recommend having laser hair removal treatments every four to six weeks to make sure to treat all of your hair follicles at the right time to damage the follicle and prevent future growth. If you start your laser hair removal treatment now, you can be hair-free just in time for swimsuit season.
