Unleash Your Natural Glow with Microneedling
The holidays are just around the corner. As you gear up to attend holiday parties, work events, and New Year’s celebrations, you want to look your best when the spotlight is on you.
Glowing skin is the staple of looking good. This timeless beauty trait can top off your cocktail dress and shed years from your appearance. Microneedling is one of the best ways to achieve glowing, radiant skin while offering tons of other benefits.
At Shantique MedSpa, located in Torrance, California, we offer microneedling to help you get the dewy skin you’ve wanted this holiday season.
How your skin ages
Your face might have appeared similar to a grape when you were younger — supple and smooth — but as you age it may slowly appear more like a raisin. This is from a variety of skin changes that happen as you get older.
When you age, your outer layer of skin called the “epidermis” thins, and the amount of pigment-containing melanocytes decreases. Sunspots may appear along with changes in your skin’s elasticity. Wrinkles and fine lines appear, often making us look older than we feel.
Your sebaceous glands produce less oil as you age, causing dry and sometimes itchy skin. While these skin changes are generally not hazardous to your health, many wish to improve them for more radiant skin.
What it does
Microneedling isn’t a new treatment, but it continues to be one of the most sought-after services people come in for. Even if you’ve heard of the treatment, you might not know how it works.
The treatment involves a dermaroller — a handheld device containing needles .5 mm to 1.5 mm in length. Dr. Soliman rolls the device on your skin, penetrating the old, top layer as well as the dermis. The microscopic wounds encourage your body to produce more collagen and elastin, healing your skin and allowing it to look younger.
Benefits
If you like what you hear so far about microneedling, you’re probably wondering what the benefits are like. Most patients notice a great improvement in their skin after the first treatment, but might require 3-6 treatments to get the results they want.
Microneedling improves skin concerns like:
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Large pores
- Sun damage
- Skin elasticity
- Scars
- Rosacea
- Hyperpigmentation
The results from microneedling are not immediate and it takes weeks for your body to regenerate new collagen. The most dramatic results are seen after four to six weeks, and most patients agree the results are worth the wait. Microneedling is most commonly used on the face but can be safely used on other parts of the body such as the head, thighs, and stomach.
Four times cheaper than laser
Laser anti-aging treatment works very well, but it might not fit your budget. Microneedling is a more cost-effective option, costing around four times less, but still addresses many of the same skin concerns. Microneedling doesn’t use heat and may be a better option for patients with dark skin.
No downtime
Don’t want to look like you had a treatment done? Microneedling is a great option for people who can’t afford a long recovery time after treatment. While redness and swelling is normal after your treatment, most of this resides within twenty-four hours.
Laser has a longer recovery time and may take 2-3 weeks before you’re healed. This makes it hard for busy patients and those who have client-facing jobs where they can’t afford to take off work. Microneedling requires no downtime and can even be performed as a lunchtime procedure.
What’s the aftercare?
Once you’re finished with your microneedling appointment, Dr. Soliman instructs you to follow some simple aftercare. This may include:
- Wearing sunscreen every day for two weeks
- Avoiding long hours in the sun
- Using topical antibiotic cream to prevent infection
- Not touching your face — wash your hands before if you do
- Going make-up free for at least 24 hours
- Avoiding swimming pools, saunas, and excessive exercising for at least 72 hours
